The Proper Etiquette When Shooting in an Indoor Fire Range

Business Blog

If you've ever been to a shooting range, you know that everyone should follow certain etiquette rules. Shooting indoors can be a lot of fun, but remember to respect other shooters and the range staff.

This article goes over the proper etiquette when shooting in an indoor firing range.

Be Aware of Your Target

When you're at an indoor fire range, be aware of your target at all times. This step is not only for safety reasons but also for proper etiquette.

If you're constantly looking down the sights of your gun, you might not be aware of who or what is in front of your target. This misstep could lead to an accident. Instead, keep your eyes up and be aware of your surroundings. That way, you can be sure that you're only shooting at your intended target.

Also, try to keep your shots as controlled as possible. Rapid-fire is generally not allowed at indoor ranges for safety reasons. If you're not in control of your shots, you could put other people at risk. So take your time, aim carefully, and always be aware of what's beyond your target.

Your target should be in good condition and properly secured. Ensure that there are no obstacles between you and your target that could stop or deflect a bullet. Be sure to clean up your targets and dispose of them properly when you're done shooting.

Control Your Muzzle

Muzzle control is critical for maintaining a safe environment in an indoor firing range. When muzzle control is not properly observed, there is a risk that a bullet could ricochet off of the range's walls or ceiling and strike someone.

You can take a few simple steps to help ensure proper muzzle control. For instance, when you are not actively shooting, your finger should be off the trigger. The muzzle of your gun should be pointed downrange at the berm or backstop.

If you need to move forward or backward, always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. You should also know where your fellow shooters are positioned in relation to you.

Also, ensure you maintain a safe distance between you and them. If you drop your gun, leave it where it falls and immediately notify a range safety officer.

Finally, always remember to follow the range safety officer's instructions and treat all firearms as if they are loaded. By following these simple guidelines, you can help to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone at the range.
